Federico García Lorca wrote in his poem of the "cante jondo": " By
the
water
of Granada,
only
sighs
row",
and
the
fact
in than
Granada
history
is closely
linked
to water. All
around
we can
irrigation
channels,
fountains,
wells
and
arab
taths;
one
of these
baths
is the
Alhambra's
"hamman",
with
a room
where
the
Sultan
rested
after
his
bath,
lying
down
on cushions
and
rugs
that
gis
slaves
had
arranged
in the
places
which
surrounded
the
central
area.
There,
he contemplated
beautiful
naked
women
dancing
to the
rhythm
of the
music
played
by blind
musicians
who,
placed
on the
|
|
upper
floor, could not
see what was happening
on the lower floor.

The
Axares'Bath,
or the bath of health and delight, was built in the 11th century, and
is still
suvives;
its
columns
and
capitals
come
even
from
Medina
Al-Zahara.
For
its
supply,
this
"hamman"
took
water
from
the
Darro,
at the
foot
of the
Red
Castle.
Aljibe de San Miguel Arab Baths
wants to get the bath tradition back, so it has used typical elements
and
material
of this
kind
of buildings
such
as:
solid
adobe
bricks
in some
walls
ans
pillars,
archs
and
vaults
with
blue
symbology,
iron
and
wood
doors
always
present
as decorative
elements,
white
marble
from
Macael
in the
bath
site
and
wall
tiling
made
with
hand-cut
and
hand-sanded
pieces
|
|
| arranged
in different geometric
position, so that
in some rooms we
can find more than
400 pieces/m2.
The
arab bath, appart
from its effect
on the body and
soul care, by means
of weak light and
essential oils scent,
was considered a
social meeting center,
were business where
celebrated and where
important daily
life questions in
those days where
discussed.

When
we go
into Aljibe de San Miguel Arab
Baths, we
are
offered
a towel
a pair
of flip-flops,
and
the
possibility
of choosing
between
different
essential
oils,
if we
opt
to enjoy
a massage
together
with
the
bath.
If you
have
forgotten
your
swimming
costume,
you
can
buy one.
Once
inside
the
bat
site,
you
can
enjoy:
firstly,
the
water
from
seven
different
pools
at different
temperature;
secondly,
the
peaceful
atmosphere
and
the
different
rooms
decoration,
and finally
|
|
|
the taste of a great
quality mint tea,
so it is advisable
to take liquids
during bathing.

| Lions
Basin
Poem Ibn Zamrak
(1333-1393) |
| Apparently,
water
and
marble
seem
to
melt,
|
|
without
knowing
which
one
slips
by. |
| Can´t
you
see
how
water
pours
out
in
the
basin
|
|
but its spouts hide it immediately?
